sound walk questions

.Were you able to find places and spaces where you could really listen? the moment we stepped into the hall there was a constant string of noises. each noise was pretty unique but could also be identified. so yes.
.Was it possible to move without making a sound? a lot of the time i would catch the swishing noise of my pants or my shoes squeaking but for the most part it was fairly easy to be silent.
.What happened when you plugged your ears, and then unplugged them? its a kind of muffled sound but i kept thinking i was supposed to be hearing silence so my mind kept wondering because of the sound of my breathing
.What types of sounds were you able to hear? my sound log is up but a couple of the most prominent sounds i heard included cars going by, people talking or laughing, coughing, cafeteria noises and keys jingling.
.Were you able to differentiate between sounds that had a recognizable source and those sounds you could not place? there were a couple of sounds i couldn't put my finger on. like sounds that might have been the vents but sounded slightly different so i couldn't quite make them out. definitely. each sound differed pretty drastically from the next when it came to identifying nature vs mechanical. it is easy to see the contrast between a beep on a microwave vs the chirp of a bird.
.Were you able to detect subtleties, changes, or variations in the ever present drone? it was pretty different hearing the sounds on the top floor of the union compared to the sounds at the bottom where everyone was. it was so silent on the top and all you could hear was this sort of soft humming. on the bottom floor the humming was really loud and instead of the soft hum of the vents like it had been upstairs, it was this loud noisy people murmur.
.Extremely close sounds? Sounds coming from very far away? close sounds are obviously easier to pick up on but that's not to say that the sounds from far away weren't able to be distinguished. i could tell when the sound coming from a couple blocks away was the sound of a car horn, for instance.
.Were you able to intervene in the urban landscape and create your own sounds by knocking on a resonant piece of metal, activating wind chimes, etc.? sometimes i would purposely shuffle with my backpack just to kind of interfere with the ongoing sounds i would hearing and that was kind of interesting to see it mesh.
.Do you feel you have a new understanding or appreciation of the sounds of our contemporary landscape/cityscape?i was actually thinking that the other day how when i walking by myself at night i could occupy the time by listening carefully to my environment and that was really cool to me.
.How do you think your sound walk experience will affect your practice as a media artist, if at all? it is always good to really get a feel for your environment and the sounds and sights of your environment. i think this exercise helped me take everything into consideration when looking at the area I'm in.
